In the Seoul, South Korea is believed that Mr. Cuckoo was once a mentally ill man who escaped from a mental hospital after attacking a female patient. He has been known to Mr. Cuckoo lurking in secluded areas, such as schoolyards and small streets, waiting for groups of young girls to pass by. Upon hearing his distinctive call of “Cuckoo! Cuckoo!”, he would launch brutal attacks on his victims using weapons like baseball bats or axes. The legend warns individuals to respond with the same call and flee if they encounter Mr. Cuckoo to avoid becoming his next target.
